Fun Stops
Having to get to a destination on a timeline is a bit stressful especially when the destination is as far as possible from my starting point. It's been hard to balance slowing down and enjoying the ride and pushing forward to make sure we get there on time. These little stops not far off our path have been the perfect way to break up the drive and get a bit of movement in for me and the dogs - plus see some very cool sights! And when we are the only people there, that's the icing on the cake.
Rock City
Rock City is a five acre park that contains about 200 huge Dakota sandstone concretions. Some are as big as 27 feet in diameter. Rock City claims that there is no place else in the world with so many huge concretions. This park is $3 for adults and has a gift shop which was closed when we visited.
Mushroom Rock State Park
This state park is free and has a smaller collection of the same Dakota sandstone concretions. The rock beneath some of them have withered and they look like mushrooms.
