Petrified Forest National Park

A quick detour to visit another National Park.

Day Trip

We took a quick detour on our path west to check out a new-to-me park. I had no idea what to expect (or what a petrified forest was) but I was pleasantly surprised at what I saw. The weather wasn't great — it was very windy and most of the day was spent trying to outrun the rain. We took a south to north drive through the park and about 3/4 of the way through, the rain caught up with us. Even with the gray skies and rain, it was still pretty.

I will definitely be back to this park when the weather is a bit nicer (and I'll also be making a stop at the Meteor Crater nearby when I do). As we headed back towards Flagstaff, the wind didn't let up. I was clenching the wheel so hard that my neck and shoulders were sore for several days.
